Designer: Mario Botta – Born in Mendrisio (Switzerland) in 1943, 1969 he graduated with supervising professors Carlo Scarpa e Giuseppe Mazzariol from Venice university, IUAV department. In Venice he gets in touch with Le Corbusier and Louis Kahn and works in the projects for the new hospital and the new congress centre. His professional career moved then to Lugano where his first buildings were the result of a deep projective research. More of his works can be seen in Ticino (Switzerland), detached houses, and in San Francisco, Museum of Modern Art. Since 1970 he has served as teacher and rapporteur in several schools of architecture all over Europe, Asia, United States and Latin America. Among his recent projects is the one for the new Academy of Architecture in Ticino, as part of the Italian Switzerland University, that started its activity in October 1996.
